The Most Surprising Women Ivanka Trump Follows

Over the course of her father's presidential campaign and transition into the White House, Ivanka Trump has been at the center of many political conversations. Many of them have hinged on what issues she will and won't support.

For many years, the savvy businesswoman seemed like a strong female advocate. But her support of many of her father's positions has seemed incongruous with some of those values. While it is still unclear what role Ivanka Trump will wind up playing in the Trump administration over the next four years, one interesting point of contrast between her and the president can be observed by comparing their Twitter accounts. Specifically, who they follow on Twitter.

Unlike the 41 people that @realDonaldTrump follows, @IvankaTrump follows 852 people. And whereas her father follows mostly people who support him and his businesses, Ivanka follows many of his most outspoken critics. There is also far more diversity in the types of individuals she follows — women in fashion, film, media (both left and right-leaning), and TV, among other professions.

Of course, these follows are not indicative of what Ivanka Trump will do over the next four years. But if she really is reading and listening to voices with a range of political beliefs, that's a good thing. Click through to see some of her most surprising follows.

Kim Kardashian West, @KimKardashian

Kanye might have visited Trump Tower, but Kim Kardashian West made it clear during the campaign that she was #WithHer. She was also much-praised for her tweet in reaction to President Trump's travel ban.

In addition to Kardashian West, Ivanka Trump follows Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

Ellen DeGeneres, @TheEllenShow

DeGeneres actively speaks out against President Trump's policies online, and notably used Finding Dory during her show as an apt metaphor.

Maureen Dowd,@maureendowd

Dowd is one of the leading op-ed columnists at The New York Times, a newspaper that Donald Trump has repeatedly lashed out at for spreading so-called fake news. She is a very strong supporter of women's rights and actively challenges Trump online.

Amy Schumer, @amyschumer

Like many other comedians, Schumer was actively pro-Hillary. However, since the election her Twitter feed has surprisingly lacked much political feedback.

Taylor Swift, @taylorswift13

Swift isn't too vocal on politics, but she did come out in support of the Women's March.

Lena Dunham,@lenadunham

During the election, Dunham was among the most outspoken Hillary supporters (and Trump critics). Besides tweets reflecting on the end of Girls, she primarily speaks out about issues in the news and women's rights.

Emma Watson, @EmmaWatson

As a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Watson has spoken extensively about gender equality. Many of the causes she addresses do not align with Trump's agenda.

Kate Gosselin, @Kateplusmy8

Is Ivanka Trump "just like us?" No way. But maybe she has a thing for Kate Plus 8?

Cara Delevingne, @Caradelevingne

In addition to her modeling and acting career, Delevingne is a human rights advocate who works with refugees abroad. Not surprisingly, she spoke out in their support following the travel ban.

She is one of many models that Ivanka Trump follows, including both Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid.
